Fishpond Lane, Tutbury
1 Fishpond Lane is a Victorian end of terrace located within a conservation area in Tutbury, Derbyshire. The existing kitchen at the rear of the house just wasn’t practical for this young family and so they asked me to design an extension to create an open plan kitchen diner but also create a small utility area and downstairs WC.
As part of this project, the client wanted to create a workshop at the bottom of the garden for his rocking horse restoration business Rix&Co. An existing garage was insulated internally and clad in cedar shingles with new aluminium windows.
The images opposite show some of the early concept designs where both contemporary and traditional forms were explored. Through dialogue with the local authority and a close relationship with the client; a more traditional approach was adopted with timber sliding sash windows and conservation type roof lights.
