We are delighted to announce that Prior Approval under Class Q has been granted for the Dark Barn and construction is due to start later this year.
Our client bought the barn with the intention of converting it into a contemporary family home. The barn already had planning permission in place for a simple conversion but the proposed design didn’t reflect the agricultural character of the barn so our client wanted to start from scratch with a fresh design.
The proposed design seeks to take inspiration from the existing barn and the agricultural material palette that includes a metal roof and black coated Thermopine cladding. The barn enjoys open views over the country side and the south elevation features double height vaulted glazing with sliding doors within a recessed terrace area to make the most of it’s setting.
The interiors will follow a similar industrial aesthetic to the exterior with polished concrete floors, fair face blockwork walls, ply lined feature walls and crittall style partitions.
The client has an Instagram account dedicated to the barn in which all of the progress will be documented and shared. A link can be found here.
